Origin story, short version

Two ex-line cooks
opened a coffee shop.

Mornin Runtz started in 2021 in a 740-square-foot storefront on Hennepin Avenue. We wanted a quieter shift. Same hospitality, fewer second-degree burns.

01 / The shop

A small bar, on purpose.

The room fits twelve people if everyone's polite about it. There's a Linea PB, a four-station pour-over bar, and a cold brew tap that still occasionally hisses at us. We roast off-site at a friend's facility in Northeast and bring beans down weekly.

We pull a tight menu because the room is tight. We name our drinks by their actual names. We don't write your name on the cup unless you tell us to. Most days that's enough.

02 / What we believe, written down once

Coffee is a labor product, not a lifestyle product. We want the bar to feel like a kitchen pass, the beans to taste like the place they came from, and your morning to be five percent better than it was when you walked in.

03 / Who's behind the bar

The team.

  • Devi Ramos

    Co-owner · Roaster

Used to run the line at a Cantonese-French place in Loring Park. Now sources green coffee from three importers and yells less.

  • Jules Mbeki

    Co-owner · Bar lead

Built the espresso program. Has opinions about milk temperature you do not need to hear unless you ask. Ask.

  • Sana Patel

    Pastry, Vela

Bakes everything you eat here at 5am, three doors down. The cardamom bun was her idea. So was the brown-butter cookie. Bow.
